At Vitruvian Farms, we grow Certified Organic vegetables and mushrooms, available at our on-site farm store, through our CSA, at the Monona Farmers’ Market, and from our online store with home delivery to the Madison, WI area.
LOCAL | Nearly all of the produce grown at Vitruvian Farms is consumed within a 15-mile radius of our McFarland, WI farm. In addition to our online store and CSA, you can also find our vegetables and mushrooms available at the Monona Farmers’ Market, Willy Street Coop locations, and over 50 Madison area restaurants and businesses.
Most Vitruvian Farms produce is harvested, washed, and delivered in one day, which means it will taste better and last longer because it is fresher.
ORGANIC | Vitruvian Farms has been Certified Organic since 2016—utilizing modern, sustainable practices that nourish humans and the earth.
BALANCED | Vitruvian Farms derives its name from the Roman architect, engineer, and writer, Vitruvius who believed human endeavors should aim to encompass the values of balance and beauty. At Vitruvian Farms, we strive to achieve balance with nature through building healthy soil, implementing regenerative practices, and constantly evaluating how we can provide healthy food to our community while caring for our land and water.
OUR STORY | Vitruvian Farms was founded by Shawn Kuhn, Tommy Stauffer, and Craig Merten in 2010. Shawn and Tommy had been roommates while attending the University of Wisconsin—Madison before deciding to start an organic farm together.
In 2018 Shawn and Tommy were finally able to purchase the 45 acre McFarland property Vitruvian Farms had called home for over 6 years prior. The farm consists of around 7 acres of farmed land, several hoop houses, a heated greenhouse, and indoor mushroom facilities.
After years of primarily providing vegetables and mushrooms to Madison-area restaurants and grocery stores, the farm underwent a major shift in 2020. Vitruvian Farms began to offer a much expanded CSA program and online store, with home delivery options, where community members could purchase produce grown on the farm as well as products from local farms and small businesses.
In 2023, construction was completed on a new building which included new farm operations spaces as well as an on-site farm store, The Store at Vitruvian. The Store is a space where community members can shop for produce grown right on the property as well as over 300 products from local farmers and makers.
